Miller is a bored B-student who happens to be the co-captain of the swim team. On first glance he is practical, effectively asexual, and has uncomplicated moods. In fact, he has a lack of outstanding interest in almost everything. However, he is also rather prone to random emotional impulses, especially his quick temper.
Like many main characters, Miller has severe disdain for wrongdoers and "false people". However, his beliefs seem flimsy and self-righteous.
PHILLIP LI
CLASS: Junior

interests: constant cell phone usage, computer games, cooking, dragging his friends to random social events
To the general student body Li is known as a carefree guy, one who has to be energetic just to urge his friends out of the house. But underneath his unconcerned exterior he's one of the nosiest people in school, and decisively paranoid. Ever since the topic arose, Li seems a bit obsessed with the concept of his friends being gay and always over-analyzing their mannerisms to prove or disprove the idea.
Although Li rants about Asian stereotypes, he is a second-generation American and can't understand Chinese anyway.
In his spare time, he loves to help his mom cook (but not too eager to admit to it)
TOBY SAUL
CLASS: Junior
Age 16
interests: journalism. falafel. Ivri Lider but his parents aren't supposed to know about that.
Outside of school, Toby seems content to be a bit of a slob. Around Miller and Li, he has a distinct casualness that contrasts with his constant studying at home; he's determined to impress his parents at almost any cost. It's probably safe to assume that he doesn't want them to know he's gay.
Toby moved here from Israel at age 13; however, he has perfect English thanks to obsessive tutoring back home, and only other Israelis recognize that he has an accent.
ASHLEY MABEL
CLASS: Junior
Age 16
interests: using the word “ass”, watching bad soap dramas and calling out the main characters on every stupid mistake
Ashley is a school friend of the boys, although she gives off the impression of someone who hangs around just to pick on them most of the time. During Freshman year at Dawson, she banded with Ted and the other “bad kids” until befriending Miller (in detention, don't ask) and randomly doing a 180, or at least claiming to. Although her attire has taken a dramatic turn for the girly, she still carries reminders of her old lifestyle, such as an apparent total lack of sensitivity and a fond overuse of the word “ass”.
EDIE SAUL
CLASS: Freshman
Age 14
Toby's little sister was brutally shy before coming to Dawson (having been homeschooled since coming to America), but is now a natural at making friends. She's a little bit forgetful, and talks a bit slow, but she's a very intuitive person and very close to her brother, the first one to find out about his "ways". She doesn't dislike Miller but finds his apathetic personality inconducive to meaningful conversation (not in those exact words, her English isn't too terrific). In short, she thinks Toby would have been well-off liking someone else.
